Ian Burnell, Modernist Inspired Cabinet - Lelló (WORLD 2022)

Country:
United Kingdom

"Lelló", as the piece has been affectionately named, is a modernist inspired cabinet, with an Eco conscious twist. The name steams from the playful use of colour. Lelló is pronounced as if it was a child learning how to say the word yellow. The piece is made from solid London Plane which came from a street in East London and was originally destined to be fire wood. The two third split doors are made from sand blasted glass and a sand blasted glass back. The cantilever internal box section carry's its lines through the side and continues around the external shelve around the piece. The whole thing (including the internal and external box sections) is joined by 46 hand cut dovetails. The exterior has been ebonised with a shellac based indian ink and the internal surfaces have been either waxed or hand painted with a low to no VOC water based paint. The backs of the shelves and door handles are made from Medite Clear, which has no added formaldehyde making it more Eco friendly. All of these considerations were made to try and reduce the carbon footprint associated with the piece.
