Luka Heeraman, Modern Day Writing Desk and Chair (Student Awards 2019)
For my Year 12 major project, I built a modern style desk and chair, based on a design I found on Pinterest. For my project, I wanted to make something that deviated from what was standard, something that could challenge my skills and give me key experience to further my education in the timber furniture making industry. Within the construction, I utilised a variety of complex angles to form a unique appeal, with the grain flowing in a straight direction. The rich vibrant colours of Tasmanian blackwood are aesthetically pleasing to the eye with a combination of chestnut brown leather on both the leather straps of the drawer and the cushioning of the chair.
