For my year Industrial Technology Timber, Year 12 Major Work Project, I designed and constructed a Modern Buffet Cabinet. I was inspired by a wide variety of existing projects and styles that I was able to adapt and alter to improve functionality and aesthetic, therefore helping me create my final result. One of these design features include its contrasting effects that were essential to the overall aesthetic, significantly enhancing it through my choice of Walnut as the primary wood used, against Rock Maple, as the rich chocolate colour of the walnut, made the thin strips of very light rock maple, stand out much more. This contrast was effectively sustained throughout the project through several areas of the design in the in-lays on the carcass and drawer fronts as well as the laminated exterior framework where the sleek curves, and straight edges further helped it stand out, increasing its appeal. However, my door is the main feature, maintaining the projects sleek curves and straight lines, enriched by the walnuts' beautiful grain pattern and colour, to achieve the textured concave feature at the front. This project significantly challenged me in both areas of design and construction, but I am very proud with the high quality work and precision that I upheld during the production of the project, to create the final result.
