Craig Allison, Merged Table (WORLD 2023)

This 2.5 metre slab of Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) was the correct length for this mitred coffee table, but was a bit too narrow and irregular at its edge for the intended use. The owners wanted an occasional informal dining table for 2 in front of their fireplace and television. I decided to "merge" the slab with a piece of vertical grained Douglas Fir to widen it and provide a straight edge. Both species are native to the west coast of the Washington state, where the owners of the piece live.
