This entertainment unit was inspired by Anton Gerner and his ‘Myrtle Cabinet on a Stand’. To prepare for the production of this project, I began extensive research on existing designs for units and cabinets. Through consolation with a teacher, I was informed of his visit to ‘The Wood Works Gallery’ in Bungendore, where he observed Anton Gerner’s unique sculptural carpentry. Similarities between our projects are evident, as I modified his contemporary design and traditional joinery into the form of an Entertainment Unit. This Entertainment Unit has a large 1450x550mm carcass joined with 32 seamless hand-cut dovetails. The focal design feature exhibits thick, live-edge veneers on the drawer fronts, accompanied by an epoxy resin pour and epoxy inlay for the door panel. Moreover, the larger drawer frame displays traditional half-blind dovetails, lined with a contrasting inlay. Ultimately, the project aims to integrate precise and artistic joinery that does not distract from its minimalistic aesthetic. Core Timber: Rock Maple (North American Species) Specialty Timber: Belah (Australian Native Species)
