Leon Curtis, Maple Burl Cabinet (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

The Maple Burl cabinet was inspired by my clients travels in Paris and her interactions with hand made paper artisans. This hand-made paper design inspiration led this piece to feature book matched Queensland Maple Burl Veneers on the front door panels, hand-cut silky oak dovetail drawer joinery, mitred and extruded door trimmings for added internal character and adjustable glass floating shelves. I tried something new with the leg frame, offsetting the slightly splayed & tapered square legs with the rounded stretcher rail adding some lightness to the footprint of the cabinet. This piece showcases the beauty of its materials and subtleness in its craft.
