When designing this table, I wanted to create something that resembled a dining table from the mid-century era but would suit any modern-day home. I am not one to sketch or draw a design, instead I have the design pictured in my head and start making full sized templates based on my ideas. The result can sometimes be inefficient; however, it really allows me to envisage what the finished product will look like. This was certainly the case for the legs as I made numerous prototypes until I found the balance, angle and shape, I had pictured. Multiple jigs and templates were used to create the legs and for accurate cutting of key joints. This part did require some planning and test cutting before I cut the actual pieces. As with all of my furniture I exclusively use recycled Timber. I sourced the timber from a retired furniture builder in Maleny who had actually purchased this 200x50 Blackbutt for house renovations but ultimately did not require. Needless to say, he was shocked that I was actually using this hard and dense timber for fine woodworking!
