Exploring the depth of surface, one question would always surface for Elias, where does a surface begin and end? The depth of surface comes down to the distance between the exterior and interior. This line of inquiry lead Elias to create a cabinet and choosing to express the depth of surface in an subtractive manner over an additional facade method. This subtractive approach was inspired by the way we work with wood, every cut made and sanded bit of wood reduces its size. At first glance the user might believe that the structure is one solid piece. The intrigue and then the revealing moment for the user when the covers are pushed aside to show there is a usable core structure that fills the entire space within. Featuring figured blackwood veneer top and middle shelf with blackwood veneer structure. The celery top veneer covers slide smoothly and hold in place on heavy duty draw runners. Blackwood Veneer, Figured Blackwood Veneer, Celery Top Veneer, 18mm plywood, floating Blackwood foot.
