Claudia Vogel, Kyoto Side Table (TABLES, CHAIRS & DESKS 2024)

In this piece I set out to invoke a Japanese feel in its design. I also wanted the piece to look attractive from all sides. The use of two wood types allows a subtle colour contrast between the various elements of the piece the highlight its structural design. The stacked frames supporting the table top are inspired by the extended bearers and joists seen in the traditional Japanese pavilion structures. Those structures are typically made with cedar and cypress, the two woods I have used in my piece.
