Seth Rolland, Kumo Coffee Table (WORLD 2023)

Instead of using legs to hold a table off the ground, I wanted the Kumo coffee table to have arms embracing its round top. Usually I smooth joinery connections, but here I emphasized each part by creating curved joints with offset thicknesses. The hand carved central disc reflects the shape of the top and creates a display surface. Made from alder from a community forest run by our local land trust, I enhanced the color of the wood with a solution of Calcium Carbonate.
