Fin Harrison, Kumiko Tea Cabinet (STUDENT 2021)
This is my Major Project piece for Industrial Technology Timber for 2021. In was made for my Mum to store and display her collection of Japanese Tea pots. The main timber is Pacific Maple which was a budget friendly choice ,however I was lucky that I could hand select pieces for figure and colour. My favorite parts are the inlayed dovetails in the drawers and the Kumiko panels I made with homemade jigs and hours of Youtube Tutorials. Laminated curved stretcher rails and trough tenons are also a feature I am happy with. The handles were also turned by me and the finish is a wipe on hard wax oil from Kaboodle that I had to make do with after Covid shutdowns made finding my original choice of wipe on finish impossible.
