My original intention in designing my first chair was to just “learn how to make a chair”. Our remarkably patient tutor, Aled Lewis, had other ideas and gently prodded me into making this piece, including lending me his signature little kick-up at the back of the seat. Hence the name “Kick Arse” chair has more than one meaning! The angles are slightly more relaxed than a classic dining chair, and construction is robust mortise & tenon. It is probably the most mature of my student designs, whose roots sit (!) firmly within the current japandi trend, plus a big splash of colour to liven things up. Silver ash + Forbo desktop linoleum.
