Jimmy Possum Chair | Birds — My first siting of the "Jimmy Possum Chair" in issue 8 of Mortise & Tenon Magazine continues to capture my imagination. The original Tasmanian-Australian style chair is both beautiful and ripe with opportunities to riff on the original design. This chair is a variant of the traditional design as it is machined and uses woods from around the world. For this chair, I sought inspiration from birds! The beauty of birds and their surrounding habitat is part of what has allowed me to keep my head on straight during the pandemic. I wanted to take some of my favorite bird characteristics — fluttering wings, colorful legs, vibrant feathers — and create a chair with similar attributes. I hope this whimsical chair brings you joy in a time of global struggle.
