For my year 12 Major Work Project, I designed and constructed a Japanese Style Buffet Cabinet. I was inspired by Japanese woodworking techniques which I implemented in my project, including Kumiko (seen on my doors). Other Japanese elements of my project include the curved legs and rails, the wooden handles and the chamfered, overhanging, floating top. Accuracy and precision were required for this project, allowing it to be executed to a high standard. My choice of wood, American Oak and Walnut, was deliberate to create an aesthetic contrast between the two, allowing certain aspects of my project to stand out. A range of tools and machinery, along with joinery and woodworking techniques were employed while constructing this project. This project displays a range of skills via the frame, the carcase, drawers, doors, and other design elements, which all have a high degree of difficulty. For a smooth and shiny finish, wipe-on polyurethane was used. Although I encountered some challenges, I was able to complete my project by the due date to a high standard.
