Alessandro Iacovella, Japanese Inspired Hallway Table (STUDENT 2021)
I built a Japanese-inspired floating hallway table for my year 11 major work project, which I finished in late September 2020. This table is composed of Rock Maple and American Walnut. Butterfly keys link the two pieces of wood together at the top and bottom. There was no glue used to link the bottom two sections joined by the keys, instead depending on the friction and strength of the butterfly keys to keep them together. Despite that year being a hard year of my schooling life, facing the covid lockdowns at home for the first time, I spent many hours on the building of this project, refining all the many forms of joinery utilised, and developing my abilities and knowledge.
