A creative design based on the Torii gates from Japan. Made out of live sawn silky oak slabs and Indian rosewood as the accent joinery. The epoxy resin was used to fill rotten parts of the timber legs in black to complement the Indian rosewood. I have primarily used dovetails for the construction of the whole project. For the framing joints I used inlay bowties and rebated sliding dovetails for the connecting parts holding up the draw. The prominent medullary rays I have incorporated in the front of the project show of the contrasting blue toned sapwood. This gives off a Chatoyancy affect which has been intensified through fine sanding and polishing of the timber. The progects sharp edges are complemented by the natural curves of the live edges and legs. This is bought together through the warm colours which give the project a unique balance. Harmonising all these aspects has lead me on a extensive journey throughout this hsc year to finally show off my hard work through a peice of creative design which doesn't exist anywhere in the world.
