Marco Grasso, Italian Riviera Sports Boat (Student Awards 2019)
For my 2019 HSC Industrial Timber Major Project, I have constructed a miniature Italian Riviera Sports Boat. My boat will serve as part of a long-time dream of owning a luxury boat and cruising around the waters of Italy, as well as a tribute to both my grandparents due to their woodworking passion. This vessel features a slatted decking, reminiscent of classic Italian Sport Boats, finished with small rope hooks and flag pole holder as well as a custom made, red faux leather seat to finish off the design. Timbers used throughout the production of the boat are all of marine grade including Mahogany/Marine Plywood for the structure of the boat, Marine Plywood for the hull of the boat; and decking finished in a Tasmanian Blackwood/Silky Oak contrast. I choose to finish the boat in a tradition white and brown contrast with the hull of the boat being finished in Antique White and top, stained in Jarrah and Brown Japan along with an extreme gloss Marine Varnish to finish off the Italian Riviera Boat Design.
