I call this piece the "Iris Bend" box. Made with Sassafras, Pecan, Cherry, Persimmon, and Padauk. I achieved the curved frame through a combination of kerf-bending, and steam(ish)-bending. The functional aperture/iris opening consists of all handmade parts. Wood is a moving, breathing substance. I meant to show that through the design elements of this box. I hope the iris invites the user inside the box in a way that differs from lift-tops, or hinged boxes.
