David Liu, Handmade Rock Maple Chair (Student)

During the pandemic, making furniture in the garage is heavily relying on the hand tools. I picked up the ideas from Windsor chair and developed this chair using angled mortise and tenons. Every piece of stretchers and backs, I used the hand plane to shape them flat. Cutting all the angled joineries is the most challenging work, but I enjoyed using those hand tools and was very happy with the final result. The whole chair is visually distorted by perspective and you can find this out looking from different aspect, which I always try to invite people to look at my works and think about it from different angle physically and metaphorically.
