For my Major Project, I chose to construct a hallway table. The Project, made from Tasmanian Blackwood, was crafted to become the feature piece in my house that, specifically in the hallway. The curved cabriole legs are a product of lamination, and wood shaping, becoming the main feature of the table, and its quality invites guests into feeling welcome and to make use of the table for temporary storage. The Jarrah inlays provide a contrast with the mitred top, adding another level of sophistication to the design, and is in proportion with the edge of the top, which had a roman edge treatment applied, which complements the unique shape of the five panel pieces on the front, back and sides, and provides a classic 19th century appearance. Seven coats of Scandinavian Oil was applied to allow the Blackwood's dark and strong grain to become more enhanced, and to provide the table with a warm and lustrous gloss. In the centre of the front, there is a hidden drawer front, which is controlled using push-to-open drawer runners and it provides an element creativity and surprise for the users. The drawer supports its initial purpose; to expand storage space.
