Saturday, August 19, 2023 Wood Review entry 2023, side table by David Richards of New Plymouth Menzshed. Following last year’s entry of my “Bar Stool” my son requested that I make him a hallway size table. Now I should explain my son has completed Level 4 Carpentry Certificate and is a Licensed Building Practitioner and until recently a foreman builder for a local construction company. I was somewhat flattered to be asked by him to make such a table and set about obtaining the necessary materials. The top is made from a door, recycled Rimu with possibly some Kauri which appears to be golden in colour. The trim on the edges is recycled Matai and these hide the mortise areas of the door’s previous joints. The legs and lower shelf are recycled Rimu and when cut the shelf looks particularly nice and appears to be “booked”. The finish is Danish Oil, giving it a beautiful sheen. I proudly handed the completed table over to my son and it now has pride of place in his house and is well used.
