Jacob Taylor, Hall Seat (Student Awards 2018)

My design is a grand hall seat consisting of a main hall seat carcase with small cupboards attached to either side of the main carcase. The main carcase consists of a shoe box attached to a backboard containing a mirror, pyrographic image and an inlay. The main carcase is mostly produced from jarrah with a Tasmanian oak inlay, framing and image. The main carcase stands two metres tall to allow for a grand and large deign. The inlay allowed me to fill bare spaces as well as break up the main timber and provide an aesthetically pleasing look. The pyrographic image is an artistic piece to make the design unique. To broaden the design and provide stability, I have attached cupboards to either side of the design. These cupboards have floated panels in the doors to add depth as well and decorative handles to provide an aesthetically pleasing look. The drawers are constructed with dovetails at the font and the face is fitted to carcase to provide a flush finish. The overall design sits together flush against a wall. Whilst the design was challenging I enjoyed producing it. Year 12, St Johns College Dubbo, NSW. Teacher: Mark Scullard
