Robyn Mauger, Gift Box (BOWLS, BOXES 2021)

GIFT BOX - 150x150x185mm This past 18 months has been a difficult time for us all and we have missed many special occasions of celebration. The making of this gift box is a way in which we can connect in a tangible way with all those we know and love as well as those whom we do not know. Passionate about working with wood and having the opportunity of accessing colorful and special timbers made this a real joy to make. This Gift Box is an example of traditional bow box techniques. The box itself is primarily of Purple Heart timber, with the bow and ribbon made from a composite of strips of Purple Heart, outside of Osage Orange and Padauk central stripe. Box is mitre jointed with a set in bottom. The Top features a hand finished bow fitted to the surrounding ribbon and ends. After sanding to 1200 grit the box was finished with tung oil. The interior features black flocking.
