Declan Fattoretto , Floating Walnut Credenza (STUDENT 2021)
The design of this credenza was inspired by Jim Reed’s Walnut and Zebrawood credenza. I did my own take on that design by still using the gap between the legs and carcass, but I came up with my own interior layout, dimensions, handles, top piece chamfer, etc. This credenza is primarily made using American Walnut, with the doors being veneered Birdseye maple that I glued on myself. The carcass of my project is only attached to the top piece with an even 20mm gap between it and the legs all the way around. Under the top piece is a 50mm chamfer on the front and back edges, and a 100mm chamfer on the side edges. The drawer and door handles were shaped by hand and bandsaw. All of the shelves in the carcass are removable except the shelf above the drawers which was fixed with stopped housing joints, the pin holes were created using the Festool LR-32. The legs were made through templating, rough cutting, thicknessing, laminating, then precise cutting with a chamfer on the outside edges. The drawers were also constructed with stopped dovetails.
