Axel Vanni, Floating hallway table (TABLES, CHAIRS & DESKS 2024)

This table was crafted from Merbau decking found at my local Op-shop. The thin top has been given subtle curves on all four edges to make the top appear thin and elegant and add to the floating effect. I challenged myself to see if I could come up with a nice piece of furniture with no pre-design or planning, I truly let my mind dictate my hands as the creative ideas crossed my mind. Starting wit the top then onto the pieces that make it look like the top is floating then onto the apron, legs and stretchers. The shapes of the different elements and the use of brass add a mid-century vibe to it while the stretcher bring a bit of a Japanese flair in my opinion (fanboy of Japanese joinery/tools). I'm pretty proud of what came out of my mind and the execution of it, it can always be better but perfection come with time.
