Bronson Perry, Floating Desk (Student Awards 2018)

I found a design on Pinterest that seemed extremely unique which inspired me to produce a project that would be something different to previous years. I wanted to do something that would present a challenge and create something that no one has seen before. In so doing I designed and manufactured a computer desk that can be mounted to a wall. I intended for the desk to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The finished product turned out very well and allowed me to utilize a variety of skills in order to produce a quality piece of furniture. The drawers of my desk have a ‘push to open’ function which creates a redundancy for drawer handles. This creates a feature that is unique and interesting. Another feature is the redundancy for legs. Since the desk is securely mounted to the wall, there is no need for it to be supported by legs. Year 12, St Peter’s Catholic College, Tuggerah, NSW. Teacher: Michael Wellings
