Flight is a response to a client request for a very special piece of furniture for their apartment loft in the centre of Newcastle. The grand detailing of this historic home required a statement piece, with simple and strong lines and a great sense of movement to mirror the length of the palatial lounge area. The central 'wishbone' component, leads the viewers eye up and along the piece, giving a sense of sweeping movement and 'flight'. The heavily raked legs, leaning outward, emphasise the strong directional appearance. Bench seating along one side of the table required a table design free of corner legs to allow movement of users. Flight seats 10 people comfortably. Flight is fabricated from solid American White Oak, with the underframe being ebonised and in a matte oil. The laminated solid top (2.8m long) is finished in a satin oil.
