David Cotterill, Flamenco Siren (ART & OBJECTS 2023)

Flamenco Siren is a 170cm tall girl I carved out of an old railway sleeper (which I’m told is Ironbark). Her arms are from an old bridge timber. She has an acrylic eye and is finished with home made beeswax and natural oil combo. These old railway sleepers are very hard so I used a combination of wood and metal working tools to shaped her. The back of her head has been left untouched and the railway track pinning holes are left as is to show her previous life. (I’m not sure if this is the right category…maybe I should have entered recycled?)
