joey chalk, Exo stand (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)
inspired by an exploded machine drawing, I wanted to strip back a traditional dresser to the bare essentials, this means the viewer can see into and through the piece. The result is a piece that doesn't really have a front or back ,the drawers can be installed and accessed from both sides. The Exo stand can be pushed up to a wall or placed more centrally in a room as a kind of a divider center piece. Made from quarter and rift sawn Rimu with Walnut accent, I have exposed all the joinery in variations of finger, saddle and mortise and tenon joinery enhance the open and exposed feel of the piece.
