Paul Tran, Entrance Table (Furniture)

The Entrance Table was created with a desire to celebrate the beauty of solid, natural timber while making simplicity appear effortless. A seamless combination of curves, angles and straight, clean lines are explored in a way that is resolved and timeless. The chamfered edge connects the legs to the supporting rail with a flowing curve, with gently tapering legs. In keeping with this light appearance, the use of shadow lines and 2mm spacing around each drawer suggest airiness and balance. Merging of traditional and modern techniques is demonstrated in the solid dovetailed drawers with Blum soft close, push to open mechanisms. Mitred beading surrounding each drawer front defines space and frames the continuous grain of the American white oak. This piece was created from roughsawn timber which was milled in the workshop for all components, inclusive of 16mm solid drawer bases and a solid back to ensure it is able to be viewed from any angle. Although light in appearance, the Entrance Table is constructed soundly with extensive use of mortise and tenon joins and solid support rails. Designed to age well, this piece has been hand sanded and finished in a hardwax oil. Designed by Kirsten Radford Built by Paul Tran
