MICHAEL GORDON, Entrance Console (WORLD 2023)

Country:
Ghana

In an era where environmental consciousness and sustainable practices are gaining paramount importance, I have decided as part of my practices to keep every single piece of wood, often considered as waste, and transform and repurpose them into stunning works of functional art. This console is therefore inspired by offcuts and such pieces. The 2 tone piece is made from salvaged Pine used by importers of various kinds of machinery and equipments into the country via our sea ports. And as well, red wood sourced locally. In my quest to also add as much functionality to any piece I make, this piece does not only have a hidden drawer with ample space, but as well, a wireless charging functionality that does not discriminate, and so charges both android and apple phones. The individual facial and side pieces were glued on with some weight to help attached properly and the main pieces were joined together using dowels and the completed build finally finished with Sayerlack's topcoat water base varnish.
