Heath Polkinghorne, Endeavour Table (Furniture)

The Endeavour Table. Endeavour – Verb: “Try hard to do or achieve something”. This dining table in American oak pushed the boundaries of all my skill sets – from designing it using Sketchup; to planning a build process; to physically creating the piece. I carved out the concave and convex curved ends of the base inside and out using an Arbortech Turboplane, then orbital sanded smooth. I rounded the ends of the 3600mm long x 1400mm wide x 40mm thick top to complement the curved base and create an extra seating position, comfortably accomodating 14 people. When returning months later to take photos, the owners confirmed the sound structural integrity of the table – admitting they had three people dancing on it when a couple drinks turned into a few bottles and the Rolling Stones back catalogue.
