As a specialist “one off” maker, I rarely have the opportunity to revisit designs. However, the Ellipses table—now in its fourth iteration—has been an exciting journey. The central goal has always been a convergence of curves. Each element forms a natural extension of its adjacent part allowing the composition to flow seamlessly from any perspective. Over time, linear leg-to-apron joints have given way to a curved junction. Dowels have been replaced by through tenons, descending along an arc that mirrors the joinery. The tabletop appears to float, its structure rebated to accommodate wood movement while maintaining a clean visual line. The pursuit of refinement continues, making each iteration more harmonious in form but more challenging to produce. For now, there’s not a lot I’d change… until the next one.
