The Eleanor bench seat draws inspiration from the subtle, smooth curves characteristic of mid-century design, while also incorporating elements of Japanese design flair. Though previous versions were crafted from white oak, this particular piece is predominantly made from American black walnut, with American hard maple as a contrasting timber to highlight the elegance of the curved joinery. Eleanor was designed to be simple yet beautiful, perfectly embodying the essence of its name. Comfortably seating two, the bench exudes both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The creation process posed challenges, particularly in developing the templates. Because I don't own a CNC, I had to meticulously handcraft the templates, experimenting with transferring and offsetting shapes across multiple templates. This journey has been both rewarding and inspiring, and I'm eager to explore further possibilities with this concept.
