This sculpture has been constructed from the keys of an 1880’s piano. Unfortunately, it was well past restoring to its former glory and as there was little recorded history about it, apart from its date of manufacture, the museum that had possession of it had to let it go. At its date of construction, it would have been the pride and joy of its owner, a truly beautifully crafted instrument. With countless people having the pleasure of both playing and listening to it at celebrations, marking time across the history of nearly a century and a half. “Echoes” is a remnant of this instrument, the moments in time captured, and its silence inviting the viewer to imagine those points in its former glory.
