This is the "Djarraly table". Djarraly is the name for this exquisite timber in the language of the Noongar people of WA’s South West. Made from ancient Jarrah that has been air drying for 45 years, it was an honour to work with such magical wood. Made with a nod to mid-century design and honouring traditional arts and crafts joinery, incorporating a mitred cabinet with beveled profile, double splayed legs using mortis and tenon joinery and two hand-cut dovetailed drawers. I’ve also included two ‘secret’ panel doors on the back, only accessible by those who have the right touch. It’s been a fun and exciting journey crafting this fine piece of furniture. I’d like to say a huge thanks to David Upfill-Brown for sharing with me a small portion of his immense knowledge of woodworking while I made this piece.
