Robin Cromer, Desert treasures (BOWLS, BOXES 2021)
Desert treasures is a 'waterfall' veneer box in the style of Craig Thibodeau (Fine Woodworking July/aug 2020). The inside veneer of the box is Fiddleback Messmate and the outside is Sapele. Four-way book-matched Sapele veneer was used so that it 'flows' from the centre of the lid to the edges and down the front, back and sides. A well known and striking desert plant, Sturt's Desert Pea is featured on the lid and sides of the box. A Red Capped Robin from Mallee and Mulga forests is featured on the front and a Rufous-crowned Emu Wren is on the lid of the lift-out box. The dividers and inner box support is made from fiddleback Silvertop ash.
