For several decades I’ve been developing a body of work using a version of kerf cutting to create sculptural furniture expanded from one or a few boards. The radial symmetry of the process has resulted mostly in round or half round forms. I have wanted to try a combining that symmetry with a more rectangular form and this is the result. Below the glass surface, the Corona 4 Dining Table’s quadrants of sustainably harvested solid alder are each precisely cut. Expanded like an accordion and joined with stripes of walnut, the resulting tensions create a solid, supportive and functional dining table. The interplay of light and shadow between the radial fins accentuates the form.
