ANTHONY ADAMS, Coopered Vase (ART, OBJECTS 2021)
A vase made from meranti using traditional coopering methods. A template was created to make the staves, taking into consideration the desired height (490mm), top diameter (180mm), bottom diameter (150mm) and an adequate "fatness" of the bilge. Each stave was jointed and shaped on a spindle molder. Straight staves were risen in traditional working hoops and steam bent into the final shape by trussing with decreasing sized hoops. Copper strips were measured, splayed and riveted to fit.
