Anthony Cammaroto, Contemporary Credenza (STUDENT 2021)

This is a Credenza that I produced as a major project for Industrial Timber HSC. This piece combines contemporary aesthetics with traditional woodworking techniques and is a reflection of my own passion for this art. This project was designed to fit against my bedroom wall and act as a display/storage unit to contain the usual clutter of a teenager's bedroom. I was inspired by Glen Cross Furniture's Promontory Dresser and incorporated similar designs in my own projects such as the use of negative space and a shadow gap. I decided to use Walnut for this project as it has extremely gorgeous grain patterns and a darker shade of colour, which suits the colour scheme of my bedroom, and it exhibits great strength. Throughout my design, I incorporated different shapes, angles and curves to balance the rectangular look of the main carcass and my use of negative space allows the piece to fit in almost any environment. Overall, This credenza is an amalgamation of aesthetics and functionality despite the reality of COVID-19 challenging the production.
