This was my final study project at l’École Nationale du Meuble et de l’Ébénisterie de Montréal. I wanted to make something that would be challenging to develop but with a style that could easily fit with other furniture in a house. I chose black walnut and curly maple because the movement of the doors creates really nice reflections. The doors are made by gluing canvas between each triangle. The result is very satisfying to use and very flexible. There is a magnet (56 in total) in each triangle, as well as in the cabinet frame to ensure the doors stay closed. Each pair of magnets is a little bit misaligned to create a tension in the door panel. The drawer joinery was made with a mortiser, a router and a lot of patience. I had to choose a very specific type of slides to ensure a clean gap from the front and to permit a touch-to-open function.
