Twelve years ago, my client brought me logs from a black walnut tree his grandfather planted. I milled these, dried them and made a number of pieces for him. This table was made from the last of that wood, combined with Jasper from a boulder my client found near his home, had cut and polished himself. While the rock is integral to the design visually, it is also essential structurally, balancing the cantilevered table top. The watery texture is meant to give the piece motion and relate to the natural edge of the stone, while contrasting with the polished surfaces.
