I rescued banksia sections that were being discarded. They were used as stepping logs in the playground. The logs were splitting naturally into triangular pieces. I experimented with various cuts to obtain the optimum usable pieces. I cut the insides out on the band saw. The handles in the form of leaves were sculpted from jarrah to extend the tree theme. In terms of design principles and elements Line and contrast of texture was an important feature. After sanding I finished the pieces with tung oil.
