Wenge, white oak, brass, nickel silver, felt. A chess set for some old friends. The entire piece consists of a storage box, playing board, chess pieces, checkers, and dividers. The chess pieces are all carved by hand and weighted with brass rods to give them an extra “presence.” The board is veneered over a lumber core substrate. All joinery was cut by hand, and all hardware is shop-made.
