Ned Collins, Cantilevered Bedside table (STUDENT 2021)
This project was an exploration of material strengths and properties, I wanted to see what was possible in form, while stripping back as much of the structure, and support as possible. To achieve this I used strong traditional joinery wherever possible, including secret mitre dovetails on the carcass body, and angle half blind dovetails and through wedged tenons in the leg structure. I used American Ash, and Tasmanian Blackwood. Almost all the joinery on this piece is done by hand and with hand tools. The drawer is constructed in the traditional Arts and crafts style, using drawer slips and solid timber base.
