This project was crafted as part of the year 12, 2022 Industrial Technology Timber Major Project submission. This project was inspired from a long line of family tradition and passion for food as the focal point of all family gatherings. The project includes a range of reclaimed timber from our family farm along with hardwoods such a Tasmanian Oak and Meranti. The table features a deep personal connection with a treasured family heirloom, my great grandfathers butchers block. The unaltered butchers block has been carefully built into the table, as the centre focal point to honour and maintain the rich history and memories that this holds in my family. This project came with a range of challenges and required care and ingenuity with the development of jigs to router out my table top and carefully craft bowtie's for the magnetic strip rail. To assure the functionality of this project, I was sure to consider the joinery such as mortice and tenon, housing for strength as this project will be used frequently to breakdown meat. The creation of this table has assured that the memories and family traditions that are represented in my great grandfather’s butchers block are honoured and passed down for many generations to come.
