I have made a hollow frame timber surfboard that depicts my favorite location, "Burleigh Heads", on a day where the waves were pumping and the headland was on fire. The diverse figuring and colour's of the timbers I used accentuate the moving water and landscape. Once in the sunshine all the grains come to life. The timbers I used to craft this board are: Australian Red Cedar for the headland and Poinciana for the fire. The sun and rays are Paulownia, Poinciana and Silky Oak. The waves are Banksia, Hairy Oak and Paulownia The beach and pandanus are Poinciana and Surian Cedar. the pin lines are Australian Red Cedar. All wrapped with a band of Cambia Ash, Paulownia and Surian Cedar rails. The fin is a reflection of the sunrise over the water. All the timber including internal frame is hand cut. The deck veneers are 4mm butt joined. Once the board is shaped, it is wrapped in 4oz fibreglass cloth and polished polyester resin. The surfboard itself is a modern interpretation of what was a very popular single fin design of the 70's size: 6' 4" x 20" x 2 7/8"
