Ben Chen, Buffet Table (Student Awards 2018)

My design is a buffet made from New Guinea rosewood. I have used a range of joinery including mortise and tenon, dowel, biscuit, rebate, butt, mitre, housing, through housing, dovetail and I've also used lamination to create curves for the wine rack. My inspiration for this piece is my family. I used emerging technology in the use of a laser cutter to develop timber inlays as well as traditional methods of woodburning to compare methods. I have finished my project using several coats of wipe-on poly. This piece features a drawer unit, door with glass panel, shelving and a wine rack. My skills and development as a craftsman have been highlighted in my design. I am very pleased with my effort and this piece is a tribute to my family for their support during my schooling and HSC.
