Two Art Deco Carver dining chairs made in solid reclaimed Mahogany and then over veneered in Macassar Ebony with drop-in leather unholstered seats. These were made as a commission for a client who owns a period property in London. I took inspiration from both Art Deco and Art Nouveaux period work with the aim of producing matching carver chairs that are both light and delicate in form as well as being comfortable to sit on. Two different bundles of Macassar Ebony veneer were carefully chosen, one for the back rests and the other to cover the remainder of each of the chair to provide contrast and visual impact. The chairs were finished with Danish oil, hand rubbed and built up over several weeks to a glossy finish.
