For my major project, I created a hard wood table using American Oak with accents of American Walnut which utilises and showcases various Hamptons and provincial design aspects. Through research, design and relevant modifications I was able to construct a table which puts me to the test and challenged me while allowing me to showcase the skills and techniques that I have acquired over a number of years of participation in timber technology. Knowing that this would be my last opportunity to create a piece of furniture in the school workshops, it was my goal to not only maximise the use of all tools and machines readily available but to also utilise the tools and machines which I may not have the opportunity to use again. Utilising various processes such as different tongue and groove, mortise and tenon and large dovetail joints for improved strength and stability, I was also able to use these to add to my tables overall complexity and aesthetics.
